The Manchester girls basketball team out six players in the scoring column, using a balanced attack to defeat Blackhawk Christian 41-35 Tuesday.
The Lady Squires got 4 points from Bailey Sewell and 2 each from Drew Thompson and Ellie Milam as the defense did its job with Manchester leading 8-5 after one. Manchester was out scored 10-9 in the second as they found the bucket just two times. Cierra Carter had a bucket and 5 free throws while Rae Bedke had a bucket. Manchester led 17-15 after one.
The Squires would get some breathing room in the third as they scored 11 points while holding Blackhawk to just 4 to stretch their lead to 28-19. Drew Thompson had two buckets, including a three while Carter and Bedke scored.
Blackhawk would do some fouling in the fourth, putting the Squires on the line where they capitalized, hitting 9 pf 11 free throws to ice the game.
Leading Manchester was Cierra Carter with 15 points. Bailey Sewell added 8, Drew Thompson 7, Rae Bedke 6, Ellie Milam 3, Tiffany Johnson 2.
The Manchester junior varsity defeated Blackhawk 54-15.
Leading the Squires was Kennedy Fierstos with 17 points. Emma West added 11, Rachel Cave 10, Jirni Cripe 7, Erika Kendall 5, Kiera Stacy 5.
