FRANKLIN, IND. – Sophomore diver Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.) and freshman swimmer Andrew Hinds (Elkhart, Ind.) resumed their impressive 2015-16 campaigns Saturday, Jan. 22.
Roskos, battling a strong field at the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Invitational, posted a score of 409.6 points, in the six-dive one-meter and five-dive three-meter exhibition to wind up as a runner-up behind Rose-Hulman’s Regen Foote. Her point total also cinched qualification standards for the 2016 NCAA Division III regionals.
The runner-up effort for the sophomore was one of five top five placings for the Spartans’ women’s squad in route to a 66-point team total at Franklin Community High School. In the pool, freshman Jamie McBride, also an Elkhart native, was part of three of them, winding up fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:51.76) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:32.1) and then joining the 200-yard medley relay for a fourth-place ending. Fellow freshman Nichole VonHolten (Auburn, Ind.) was involved in two such finishes, also competing on the 200-yard medley relay and coming back for a fifth-place mark in the 200-yard butterfly (3:08.61).
On the men’s side of the meet, Hinds raced to a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (64.66 seconds) to guide MU as part of a 23-point team total. He came back, later in the afternoon, for a top eight mark in the 200-yard breaststroke, while fellow freshmen Guerby Ruuska (Rensselaer, Ind.) andQuinn-Michael L’heureux (Fort Wayne, Ind.) were also in the top eight in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively, as was the 200-yard individual medley relay.
Manchester University concludes its pre-Ohio Athletic Conference Championships slate Saturday, Jan. 30. They travel to Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, for a dual against the Polar Bears.
