The Manchester girls kicked off the 2016 Rochester sectional Tuesday, taking on Oak Hill in the opening game. The Lady Squires got off to a very slow start and could never make up the deficit in a 45-34 loss to the Eagles.
Oak Hill would score the first 7 points of the game before and Emma West bucket at the 2:42 mark broke the ice as the Squires trailed 7-2 after one.
Manchester would get the first bucket of the second quarter from Cierra Carter when the Eagles went flying. Oak Hill would score 10 straight to grab a 17-4 lead when Ellie Milam hit two free throws. Manchester would make it 18-8 on two West free throws before Oak Hill scored the last bucket of the half and led 20-8.
The Eagles would hit a three to start the third quarter when the Squires would make a run and get the deficit to single digits. Tiffany Johnson would connect on back to back buckets, followed by a bucket from West and a Johnson free throw to make it 23-15. Oak Hill would answer with 6 straight to lead 29-15 when Carter connected, followed by two Sydney Day free throws to make it 29-19 with a quarter to go.
Oak Hill would score the first 4 points of the fourth when Rae Bedke and Johnson answered. After an Eagle bucket Johnson would hit two free throws as the makes went back and fourth. Down 41-29 Sydney Day drained a long ball for a 41-32 score with 31.7 left as the Squires got one more bucket from Johnson in the 45-37 loss.
Tiffany Johnson led the Lady Squires with 11 points. Emma West added 6, Cierra Carter 6, Sydney Day 5, Ellie Milam 2, Drew Thompson 2, Rae Bedke 2.
