Apaches Use Huge Fourth Quarter To Defeat Eastbrook

The Wabash boys took a 3-15 record into Tuesday’s contest with Eastbrook who had an identical record, so something had to give. The Apaches got off to a rocky start before regathering themselves to come back and defeat the Panthers 70-59.

Eastbrook jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Eryk Weber hit a bucket and a free throw to make it 8-3. Down 10-3 Weber would then sink two free throws and follow that with a bucket to cut the Panther lead to 10-7. Owen Yeadon and Taylor Vigar would the get in on the action, matching buckets with Eastbrook as the Apaches trailed 15-11 when Vigar connected, followed by an offensive rebound bucket from Weber to tie the score at 15. Eastbrook would hit right before the buzzer and led 17-15 after one.

Marcus Jones would get the first bucket of the second quarter to tie the score before and Eastbrook three. Vigar would answer with a bucket and was followed by a Luke Mattern three to grab their first lead of the night at 22-20. The Apaches built the lead to 29-24 with Treavor Floor connecting before the Panthers scored 5 straight to tie the game. Vigar would then score on a reverse layup that was answered by Eastbrook when Marcus Jones score twice in 15 seconds to give Wabash a 35-31 lead. Eastbrook scored the final point of the half as the Apaches led 35-32.

The Panthers would get the first bucket of the third quarter when Mattern drained a three that started a 9-4 run by the Apaches to grab the lead 44-38. Eastbeook would then be the one to run, hitting two straight three pointers and 8 straight points to go up 46-44 before Austin Vinopal tied the score off an offensive rebound. Eastbrook would score the final 4 points of the quarter and led the Apaches 50-46 with a quarter to go.

The Apaches came out on a mission to start the fourth quarter. Taylor Vigar hit a free throw, followed by a Mattern bucket and two free throws from Floor. Vigar would then hit a bucket that completed a 7-0 run to start the quarter and led 53-50. Eastbrook would make it 53-52 before Jones, Vigar and Floor all hit to grab a 59-52 lead. The Apaches were leading 61-56 when a second run of the quarter put the game away. Floor would hit two free throws with 2:07 remaining that ignited a 7-0 run to give Wabash a 68-56 lead. Jones and Vigar dominated during the run. The Apaches would go on to win the game 70-59.
