ANDERSON, IND. – For the fifth time this season, Manchester University junior thrower Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind.) found herself at the top of a meet’s results list.
She added a little more to the story Saturday, Feb. 27, re-setting her school record in the 20-pound weight throw as part of two Spartans’ event titles at Anderson University’s Fred Wilt Invitational.
Aator launched the weight 56 feet, six inches, blasting her former season and career best by more than five inches. Her effort bested the 28-thrower field by over a tenth of a meter and moved her into the top 15 of the NCAA Division III performance list.
Fellow junior Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.), competing in the 5000 meters, gained the Black and Gold’s second event title, helping lead the team to a ninth-place finish of 34 points, winning the race by nearly two minutes with a season and career best 17:53.96 clocking which was also second-fastest in school history. Her time kept her within the national top 45.
Other top efforts for MU came from sophomore thrower Kara Brueckman (Crown Point, Ind.) who tallied a personal season and career best in the 20-pound weight throw (14.58 meters) as part of a third-place effort; a pair of top six finishes from the sophomore thrower duo of Whitney White (Portage, Ind.) and Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) with Cauhorn’s 11.12 meter toss being a personal season and career best; and a sixth-place team point scoring mark from sophomore jumps specialist Samantha Henderson (Frankfort, Ind.).
The Spartans conclude their regular season Saturday, March 5, sending select individuals to the UW-Stevens Point last chance meet.
