The Northfield baseball team was out slugged 13-11 Wednesday as they fell to Tippecanoe Valley 12-9.
The Norse jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings before surrendering 9 in the fifth.
In the bottom of the first Jarred Short would lead off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Dylan Brown. Drake Richter then singled home Short for a 1-0 lead. With two outs Jared Vigar would draw a walk before Richter advanced to third on a wild pitch. Remington Monce then singled home Richter to make it 2-0. Blake Harner would hit a single with Vigar scoring on an error before pinch runner Jackson Beery did the same for a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth Richter would draw a walk and was moved to second by Jakob Hayes. Vigar would then single home Richter for a 5-0 lead. Vigar would advance to second on the throw before advancning to third on a passed ball. Monce would sac Vigar home to lead 6-0.
Valley would pick up a run in the fourth before collecting 8 hits and taking advantage of a couple Norse miscues in the fifth to score 9 times and grab a 10-6 lead. In the bottom of the fifth Matt Coe would reach on an error and was followed by Sean Rodriguez walking. A wild pitch put runners on second and third when Mason Hovey reached on a dropped third strike. Short would then single home Coe to make it 10-7 with one out and the bases loaded before a strike out and a fly out ended the inning.
Valley would plate 2 more runs in the top of the 6th with the Norse answering with a run. With one out Monce would double and was drove home on a two out Rodriguez single to make it 12-9.
The Norse had one more shot in the 7th, scoring one run when courtesy runner Jackson Beery scored on a Richter double before two ground outs ended the game 12-9.
