The Southwood baseball team traveled to Maconaquah Saturday to play a double header with the second game being a conference game. The Knights won game one 7-5 before coming back to take game two 6-1.
In game one the Knights would score in xix of the seven innings and never trailed. In the top of the first Zach Ball would lead off reaching on an error and stealing second before a Clay Hinrichsen single scored Ball for a 1-0 lead.
Southwood would tack on another solo run in the second when Carson Blair led off the inning with a home run for a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third Ball would single before stealing second and advancing to third on the throw. Hinrichsen would then hit a fly ball to left with Ball tagging to score. The Braves would even things up in the bottom of the inning. With two outs Feller would single, steal second and take third an an error. Alspaugh would then draw a walk and steal second before a Taylor walk loaded the bases. Armstrong would then clear the bases with a 3 run double to make it 3-3 after 3.
The Knights would regain the lead in the top of the fourth. Bobby Mettler would be hit by a pitch before taking second. Matt Cox would follow with a single to put runners on first and second before a Christian Deeter fly ball moved both runners a base before Mettler scored on the throw. Mason Lloyd would then reach on an error with Cox going to third before a Ball sacrifice scored Cox for a 5-3 lead.
The Knights would build their lead by a run in the top of the fifth when Brenna Kelly reached on an error. With one out Kelly would take second and third on passed balls before a Blair sac fly scored Kelly for a 6-3 lead.
The Braves would draw within one in the sixth. Taylor would lead off with a walk and was ran for by Dennis. Armstrong was then hit by a pitch before Reed drew a one out walk to load the bases. A Burris single to left would then score Dennis and Armstrong to make it 6-5 before the Knights got out of the inning.
Southwood tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Brandin Frazier led off with a walk and stole second before a Ball single and an error scored Frazier for the 7-5 score.
In game two the Knights struck early while the Braves bats were cold. Southwood would plate 3 runs in the first when Ball led off with a single and stole second before a Hinrichsen walk. Kelly would then single before a Frazier double drove home two runners for a 2-0 lead. Blair would then hit a sac fly that scored Kelly for a 3-0 lead.
The Knights would score 2 more runs in the fourth. Roberts would lead off with a single, followed by a Ball single. With runners on the corners Hinrichsen would single home both for a 5-0 lead.
Southwood would score their last run in the sixth. With one out Kelly would single and was ran for by Ethan Roberts. With two outs Blair would reach on an error with Roberts rounding the bases and scoring on the throw. Maconaquah would plate their lone run in the bottom of the inning when Herron reached on an error and took second on a wild pitch. Feller would then single top put runners on the corners before Herron scored on a wild pitch for the 6-1 score.
