The Wabash Lady Apaches had been on a cold spell since winning the Lady Apache Classic, but the weather was nice Friday and the Lady Apaches got hot at the right time, defeating Caston 6-5 in 10 innings.
Wabash would take a brief lead in the first when Bre Sewell led off being hit by a pitch. Sewell was followed by a Whitney Working single to put runners on the corners before Working stole second. Montana Castro would then reach on a fielders choice with Sewell scoring for a 1-0 lead.
Caston would bounce back to score 1 run in the second, 2 in the third and 1 in the sixth to lead 4-1 before the Lady Apaches started to fight back. In the bottom of the sixth and one out Castro would double and was ran for by Kailynn Richardson. Hannah Halverson would then double home Richardson to make it 4-2. Katie Newman would follow with s single to put runners on the corners when Taylor Mettler reached on a fielders choice to score Halverson to make it 4-3.
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh Tabby Wagner would beat out a dropped third strike and was followed by a Sewell walk. After a ground out and a strike out the Apaches were down to their last out when Sewell and Working pulled off a double steal. Sewell would then time the catcher throwing the ball back to the pitcher, breaking for home and scoring the tying run to force extra innings.
Caston would score a run in the 8th, but Wabash would respond. Newman would lead off with a walk before stealing second with one out. Erica King would the deliver a single up the middle to score Newman as the game headed for the ninth.
Neither team would score in the ninth and the Apaches held Caston in the 10th to set up the finish. Castro would lead off with a single and advance to second with one out when Newman reached on a fielders choice. With two outs and Castro standing on second King would hit a grounder up the middle with Castro racing home for the winning run, 6-5.
