The Northfield softball team played host to Taylor Saturday, splitting a double header. Northfield fell in game one 6-2 before coming back to take game two 9-4.
In game one the Norse fell behind 6-0 heading to the fifth when Abby Keaffaber led off with a double, followed by a Breanna Burcroff single to put runners on the corners. With one out Michelle Hunt would single back to the pitcher to load the bases before Olivia Taylor was hit by a pitch with two outs to make it 6-1. Kiana Kendall would then reach on an error to score the second run before a ground out ended the inning.
The Norse would put a couple on in the sixth off an Abby Keaffaber single and a Taylor error, but couldn’t plate a run, then went three up and three down in the seventh.
In game two the Lady Norse would strike first, scoring 3 runs in the first. With one out Paige Holley would single and was ran for by Abbey Ross. Ross would advance to second on a wild pitch before Ally Keaffaber singled to put runners on the corners. Abby Keaffaber would the single home Ross for a 1-0 lead. Kelcie Thomson would run for Abby Keaffaber when Jordan Shafer singled home Ally Keaffaber and Thomson for a 3-0 lead.
Taylor would plate 2 runs in the second to make it 3-2 before the Norse would score in the third. Ally Keaffaber would single and was forced out at second with sister Abby on first. Again Thomson would run for Keaffaber before Burcroff reached on an error. Shafer would move the runners over a base before Thomson scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
Taylor would come back in the top of the fourth to score twice at tie the score at four, with the Norse answering with a run in the bottom of the inning. Shelby Ward would lead off with a triple and score on a Kendall ground out to make it 5-4.
The Norse would get a little breathing room in the fifth when Abby Keaffaber reached on a one out error and advanced to second before being ran for by Thomson. Burcroff would then single, chasing Thomson to third before a Shafer grounder scored Thomson. With Burcroff on third, Alexis Taylor would single to make it 7-4.
The Norse would get their last two runs in the sixth. With two outs Holley would draw a walk and was ran for by Ross. Ross would move to second on a wild pitch before Ally Keaffaber walked. Abby Keaffaber would then single to score Ross with the Keaffaber sisters on the corners. The last hit came from Burcroff when she singled home Ally Keaffaber for the 9-4 score.
