On a cold, drizzly night the Northfield and Southwood baseball teams hooked up in an inter county and TRC matchup Monday at Northfield with the Knights jumping out to a 4-0 lead and defeating the Norse 4-2.
The Knights would pick up a run in the first when Clay Hinrichsen hit a one out single, followed by a Brennan Kelly single. With two outs both runners would advance a base on a passed ball before walks from Carson Blair and Matt Cox made it 1-0.
Southwood would extend their lead in the second. Will Roberts would reach on a dropped third strike before stealing second. Zach Ball would then single home Roberts as the Knights led 2-0.
With Southwood pitcher Clay Hinrichsen controlling things on the mound, Norse pitcher Remington Monce would settle in and the score remained 2-0 until the sixth.
Christian Deeter would lead off the inning drawing a walk and was ran for by Lucas Topliff. Bobby Metter then doubled to put runners on second and third before Roberts reached on an error with Topliff and Mettler scoring for a 4-0 lead.
The game was still 4-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh when the Norse made some noise. Matt Coe would lead off with a single and was drove home on a Jackson Beery double. With one out Dylan Brown would reach on a Knight error with Beery coming home to make it 4-2. Matt Cox would come into the game on the mound for the Knights, giving up a single to Drake Richter before forcing an infield fly and recording a strike out to end the game.
