The Manchester and Southwood baseball teams duked it out Wednesday at Manchester. The Squires had a 3-1 lead after one before the Knights scored in three different innings down the stretch to defeat Manchester 4-3.
The Knights would plate a run in the top of the first. Zach Ball led off with a double with Brennan Kelly driving him home to lead 1-0. The Squires would answer with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. With one out Kane Gable would single, followed by David McAtee reaching on an error. A single from Rylie Rickert and a 2 rbi single from Zach Hill gave Manchester a 3-1 lead.
The Knights would draw close the gap in the third. Brandin Frazier would single and advance to third before a Carson Blair single made it 3-2.
In the fifth with Frazier in scoring position after a one out single, Matt Cox would deliver a run tying single to make it 3-3.
In the sixth Ball would deliver a two out single before being moved in to scoring position on a Clay Hinrichsen single. Kelly would then pick up his second rbi of the game with a single for a 4-3 lead.
The Squires would threaten in the seventh. After a walk and a steal, Janzin Cripe would be thrown out at third before a Trey McNall single. The Knights then turned a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
The Knights collected 15 hits. Brandin Frazier and Brennan Kelly had 3 hits each. Carson Blair, Zach Ball and Matt Cox each had 2 hits each. Clay Hinrichsen, Bobby Mettler and Christian Deeter each had a hit.
