It was a wild first inning at Manchester Monday as the Northfield and Manchester baseball teams scored over half their runs in the first as Northfield hung on for a 6-5 win over the Squires.
The Norse would score four times in the top of the first. With two outs Drake Richter would single to right before Jakob Hayes singled Richter to third. Remington Monce would them walk to load the bases before a Chance Hartman single scored Richter and Hayes for a 2-0 lead. Jared Vigar would then single home Monce and Hartman for a 4-0 lead. The Squires would answer with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Bailey Ness led off with a single before a David McAtee one out single put runners on the corners. McAtee would steal second before Rylie Rickert singled home Ness and McAtee to make it 4-2.
Manchester would draw a run closer in the third when Zach Hill led off with a double before a Janzin Cripe walk. Cripe would be caught trying to steal second before a strike out left Hill standing on third with two outs. Landon Tharp would come through with an rbi single to make it 4-3.
Northfield would score twice in the fourth. With one out Jackson Beery would single before a Jarred Short walk. Richter would then single home Beery and Short as the Norse lead was 6-3.
The Squires would make things interesting in the fifth. Ness would walk before being forced out at second on a Kane Gable grounder. McAtee would then single with Gable scoring on a Norse error and McAtee following Gable home to make it 6-5.
Both pitching staffs would buckle down the remainder of the game as the Norse held on for a 6-5 win.
