The Manchester softball team scored 3 runs in the third inning, then held on for dear life as they defeated Northfield 4-3 Monday.
Northfield would score a run in the top of the first when Kiana Kendall led off being hit by a pitch. Paige Holley would sacrifice Kendall to second before a two out double from Abby Keaffaber gave Northfield a 1-0 lead. Manchester would tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Emma West led off with a double and advanced to third on a Katelyn Andritsch sacrifice. Cierra Carter would then hit a fly ball to right, scoring West to make it 1-1.
The game would stay 1-1 until the bottom of the third when the Lady Squires manufactured a two out rally. West would single and move to second on an Andritsch single. Carter would then single to load the bases before West scored on a passed ball. Kiera Stacy would then double home Andritsch and Carter to give the Squires a 4-1 lead.
Northfield would cut the lead in half in the fifth. With one out Holley would single and was ran for by Kelcie Thomson. Ally Keaffaber then reached on an error before Abby Keaffaber singled home Thomson to make it 4-2.
The Norse would draw a run closer in the sixth. With one out Shelby Ward singled and advanced to third on a Squire error. Olivia Taylor would then single home Ward to make it 4-3. Taylor would then be thrown out at third on a steal attempt before Kendall singled. Holley then reached on an error and after a passed ball the Norse had runners on second and third before a fly out ended the inning.
The Norse had one more shot in the seventh, putting two runners on base but couldn’t capitalize as Manchester held on for the 4-3 win.
