The Southwood baseball team pounded out 17 hits and scored 8 runs in the sixth inning as they defeated Rochester 16-1 Wednesday.
The Knights would plate a solo run in the first. Zach ball would lead off with an infield single and was followed by Clay Hinrichsen drawing a walk. With one out Brandin Frazier would walk to load the bases before a Carson Blair sac fly scored ball for a 1-0 lead.
Southwood would get 2 more in the second. Bobby Mettler drew a lead off walk that was followed by a Will Roberts home run to left for a 3-0 lead.
The Knights would score one run in the third when Matt Cox drilled a two out double and was drove home on a Mason Lloyd single to lead 4-0. Rochester would plate their lone run in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-1.
Clay Hinrichsen would hit a bomb to center to start the scoring in the fourth for the Knights. Three straight singled from Brennan Kelly, Brandin Frazier and Carson Blair would make it 6-1 with Blair getting the rbi before Cox reached on a fielders choice to score Frazier to make it 7-1.
A lone run was scored by the Knights in the fifth. Roberts would lead off with a single and steal second. A ground ball from Ball moved Roberts to third before a Hinrichsen ground out scored Roberts for an 8-1 lead.
The lights went out in Georgia in the sixth as the Knights collected 6 hits that included a 3 run home run from Blair as Southwood scored 8 times for the 16-1 win.
With the win over Rochester and the Whitko win over North Miami and the Valley win over Peru the Knights share the TRC with Whitko, Peru and Tippecanoe Valley.
