The Wabash baseball team clung to a 4-3 lead over Northfield Wednesday before scoring 3 runs in the sixth to defeat the Norse 7-3.
Northfield would plate a run in the top of the first when Jarred Short led off with a single and stole second. With two outs Jakob Hayes singled home Short for a 1-0 lead. The Apaches would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning. Kaleb Kelsheimer would reach on an error before stealing second and third. With two outs Jordan Burnsworth singled home Kelsheimer to make it 1-1.
The Norse would grab the lead in the top of the third. Jackson Beery drew a walk and was sacrificed to second before a ground out moved him to third. Drake Richter would then reach an an Apaches error with Beery scoring for a 2-1 lead. Again the Apaches would draw even in the bottom of the inning. With two outs Jordan Holley would draw a walk and was drove to third on a Treavor Floor single. Holley would then score on a passed ball to make it 2-2.
Wabash would grab their first lead in the fourth. Austin Hostetler would reach on an error and advance to third on a Ben Dillon single. Taylor Vigar then hit a sac to the pitchers mound to score Hostetler for a 3-2 lead. Justin Beauchamp followed with the same ball placement for the same result to lead 4-2.
The Norse would get a run back in the top of the fifth.With one out Beery would single and take second on a passed ball. Short would then draw a walk before a Dylan Brown single loaded the bases. Richter would then reach on a fielders choice, scoring Beery to make it 4-3.
The Apaches would break things open in the sixth. Burnsworth would reach on an error and was drove home on a Hostetler triple. Dillon would the reach on a bunt single to put runners on the corners before a Vigar sac to the pitcher scored Hostetler to lead 6-3. Beauchamp would then hit a sac fly to score Dillon to make it 7-3.
