The Southwood baseball team played the second game of the Tri County sectional Wednesday and had the task of taking on #1 South Newton.
The Rebels would score 2 runs in the first to grab the lead before the Knights cut the lead in half in the top of the third. With two outs Will Roberts would hit a single before a Zach Ball triple made it 2-1. South Newton would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-1.
Southwood would cut the Newton lead to one in the top of the fourth. Brennan Kelly led off with a double and was moved to third on a Brandin Frazier infield single. With runners on the corners Carson Blair would lay down a bunt that scored Kelly to make it 3-2. Two fly outs and a strike out ended the threat.
South Newton would then score 4 runs in the sixth before holding the Knights in the seventh for the 7-2 score.
