The Northfield baseball team took the long drive to Remington Wednesday to open sectional play against the host Tri Central with pitcher Jakob Hayes allowing just 4 hits while the Norse pounded out 14 in a 12-0 five inning game.
Northfield took control right from the start, scoring 4 times in the first inning. With one out Dylan Brown hit a single before stealing second and was followed by Drake Richter reaching on an error. With runners on second and third with two outs Remington Monce ripped a triple to score both runners for a 2-0 lead. Jared Vigar would then single home Monce to lead 3-0. After Vigar stole second Chance Hartman drove home Vigar with a single for a 4-0 lead.
The Norse would score 3 more times in the third. Hayes led off being hit by a pitch before a Monce single. Courtesy runner Xian Rodriguez would then score on an error to make it 5-0 before a Mason Hovey single scored Monce for the 6th run. Jackson Beery then singled home Hovey to lead 7-0.
Northfield would end the game in the fourth with a two out rally. With two outs Hayes would single and was followed by a Monce triple to make it 8-0. Vigar would single home Monce to lead 9-0 before singles from Hartman and Hovey. Beery singled to score Vigar and Hartman for an 11-0 lead before Hovey scored the final run on an error for the 12-0 score.
