The Manchester baseball team fell behind 2-0 Wednesday before scoring 13 runs in a 13-4 win over Rochester in the Wabash sectional.
The Squires were down 2-0 going to the top of the third when the bats woke up. Landon Tharp would single and was followed by a Kane Gable single. With runners on second and third after a double steal David McAtee would single to load the bases before Rylie Rickert reached on an error to score Tharp to make it 2-1. Hayes Sturtsman would then clear the bases with a triple to put Manchester up 4-2. Zach Hill then walked to put runners on the corners. Sturtsman would then score on an error with Hill doing the same as the Squire lead was 6-2.
The Squires would increase their lead in the fourth. With two outs Rickert would be hit by a pitch and was followed by a Sturtsman walk. Zach Hill then hit the Squires second triple of the game to increase the lead to 8-2. Janzin Cripe was then hit by a pitch before Hill scored on a passed ball for a 9-2 score. Rochester would plate 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 9-4.
Manchester would put the game out of reach in the sixth. Rickert led off with a walk and was followed by Sturtsman’s second triple of the game to make it 10-4. Hill followed with a ground out to score Sturtsman for the 11-4 score.
The Squires put some insurance on the board in the seventh. With one out Gable would walk. With two outs Sturtsman reached on an error with McAtee scoring to make it 12-4. The last run came off a Hill single that scored Sturtsman for the 13-4 final.
