The Manchester baseball team advanced to the sectional championship, defeating Lewis Cass 12-7 Saturday.
Cass would score a run in the top of the first before the Squires answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning. David McAtee would lead off reaching on an error. With one out Rylie Rickert singled before a Hayes Sturtsman single scored McAtee to make it 1-1. With runners on second and third after a passed ball, Zach Hill would reach on a fielders choice that scored Rickert to give Manchester a 2-1 lead.
Cass would tie the score in the top of the second, but again the Squires would answer. With one out Trey McNall would draw a walk and was followed by a Landon Tharp single. McAtee then singled to score courtesy runner Noah Beck for a 3-2 lead before Tharp rounded third and scored on a slide at the plate to lead 4-2. Kane Gable then drew a walk before taking on a passed ball. Sturtsman would then reach on an error that scored McAtee and Gable for a 6-2 lead.
Back came Cass in the third to score 3 runs to cut the Manchester lead to 6-5 before the Squires blew things open in the fourth. McAtee would lead off with a single and took second on a wild pitch. With one out Rickert would reach on an error that scored McAtee to lead 7-5. Sturtsman would then draw a walk before Hill reached on an error that loaded the bases. Janzin Cripe got a rbi on a walk before Kam Lester did the same as the lead grew to 9-5. With two outs Tharp would reach on a fielders choice that scored Hill before McAtee singled home Cripe and Lester for a 12-5 lead.
With ace Hayes Sturtsman on the mound the Squires would give up just two more runs the remainder of the game as they won 12-7 to move to the championship game against Oak Hill Monday.
David McAtee had 3 hits and 3 rbi’s. Janzin Cripe had 1 hit, 1 rbi. Hayes Sturtsman had 1 hit, 1 rbi. Rylie Rickert and Bailey Ness each had a hit. Kam Lester had an rbi. Zach Hill got the win on the mound.
