The Wabash Little League Coaches Pitch Allstar teams traveled to Fairmount over the weekend to play in a 12 team tournament. Friday both teams took a loss with the Black team falling to a tough defensive team from Richmond and the Orange team let one slip away to a hard hitting team from Delta Little League. Both teams came back Saturday ready to play though, both teams went 2-0 in Saturday’s pool play. The Black team started out the morning taking down the host team Madison Grant in a very close game 7-6. The Orange team started their morning off beating the Marion Gold team 15-3. Both teams played at 10:00am then enjoyed the sunshine until 4:00pm when it was their turn to play again. At 4:00 the Black team took on a hard hitting Van Buren team and had to come from behind and pull out the victory 16-12. The Orange was well rested and ready to play ball and it showed as the defeated a Brooklyn team at 4:00 16-1. The good play by both teams put them both in the “A” bracket in tournament play on Sunday. Unfortunately it also paired them up head to head in the first game of tournament play, the Orange teams defense knocked the Black team out five out of six innings lifting them to victory 15-6. Wabash Orange had a rematch with the Delta team in the second bracket game of the tournament. In another fantastic high scoring game between two good teams the Wabash Orange team had the Delta team on the ropes the whole game. Leading by 9runs in the bottom of the last inning the wheels fell off once again and the hard hitting Delta team took advantage and tied the game up sending the game into extra innings. A good defensive stand in the top of the seventh set the Delta team up and they squeeze out a run taking the win 24-23. It was a great weekend of baseball and we thank the MGSSL for a great time.
