The Wabash 11U All Star team moved their record to 2-0 in pool play Friday with an exciting 5-3 win over New Castle in seven innings.
Even though out hitting New Castle, Wabash found themselves trailing 3-0 heading to the top of the third when they would even the score. Andrew Dillon led off the inning with a single to right but was thrown out. Nathan Lehner then singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dillon Tomlinson then doubled home Lehner to make it 3-1 before a Mo Lloyd single put runners on the corners. After Lloyd stole second, Tomlinson would score on a wild pitch to make it 3-2. With Lloyd on third with two outs Drayson Pace would reach on an error that scored Lloyd to tie the score.
Wabash would continue to hit the ball the next few innings while the pitching depth held New Castle at bay, but couldn’t plate a run until the seventh.
In the top of the seventh Lloyd would lace a double to left and was drove home on a Mason Fisher single to grab a 4-3 lead. Needing an insurance run, Wabash would manufacture one. Pace would line out to short with Fisher advancing to third on a throwing error by the shortstop. With two outs Fisher would score on a passed ball to take a 5-3 lead. With Jordan Booth on the mound in the bottom of the inning, he would get a fly out, a strike out and force a ground out to seal the win.
With the win Wabash goes 2-0 in pool play and sets up a rematch with New Albany at 1:30 Saturday. New Albany defeated Wabash last year in the 10U state championship game.
