Norse Defense Shuts Down Knights Attack

The 2016 version of the Metro Bowl was played at Southwood Friday with Northfield pulling off what some might say was an upset, defeating the Knights 26-7.

The Norse would get the lone score of the first half in the first quarter when Jensen Frieden scored from 16 yards out with 7:33 left in the quarter to lead 7-0 at the half. Kade Kennedy kicked the extra point.

Just two and a half minutes into the second half, Frieden would find pay dirt again scoring from 16 yards and after the Kennedy kick it was 14-0. Late in the third the Northfield defense had backed Southwood up deep in their own territory, forcing a punt with the snap going over kicker Parker Mays head and into the end zone for a safety and a 16-0 lead.

The Norse would extend their lead just eight seconds into the fourth when Kennedy connected on a 24yd field goal to lead 19-0. The Knights would answer quickly, marching down the field and Blake Martz scoring from a yard out. After the Mays kick the Knights trailed 19-7. With time running out on the Knights and needing the ball, Norse running back Jensen Frieden would put the game out of reach when he broke loose for an 84 yd touchdown with 5:44 left to seal the 26-7 win for the Norse.
