NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University junior goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) and his net-minding counterpart, Jourdan Greene of Blackburn College, proved their mettle Friday, Sept. 9.
Forman stopped four of five Beavers’ shot on goal attempts, and Greene was just as tough for the Spartans to solve with eight saves on nine shot on goal strikes. The only scores the two defensive stalwarts surrendered occurred within the first 25 minutes, as MU (2-0-1) and their guests played to a 1-1 tie during day one of the 2016 Anderson University – MU Raven – Spartan Classic.
Playing in front of another crowd of nearly 200 cheering fans on Good Field at the Spartan Soccer Complex, the Black and Gold appeared on the verge of resuming their fast start from the first weekend of the season. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Morley (Canton, Mich.) got loose in BC’s end less than five minutes in and beat Greene to the far post for his second goal of the season. From that point, Greene and the Beavers’ defense kept the home side out of the net, despite multiple chances down the stretch in regulation and both overtimes as part of a 25-11 total shots edge.
Blackburn, moving to 1-1-2 on the young campaign, managed to equalize the Spartans’ early score in the 24th minute. Just as their hosts, they had chances to unknot the scoreboard but came away empty over the remainder of the first half, the second half and both extra sessions.
Day two of the Raven-Spartan Classic is Saturday, Sept. 10. MU hosts Moody Bible Institute at 3 p.m., while BC travels to Anderson for a clash with the Ravens.
