BLOOMINGTON, IND. – Spurred on by four student-athletes racing to individual top 10 efforts, Manchester University battled through rainy conditions Friday, Sept. 16, to produce more strong results.
Coach Geoff Lambert’s squads ended third on the women’s side and 10th on the men’s team leaderboard at the 2016 Indiana Intercollegiate Championships’ Little State section held at Indiana University – Bloomington’s Championship Course. Senior Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) placed fourth, crossing in 19:44.84 as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s low finisher, while her streak of being the Black and Gold’s top placer ran to 21 successive meets. Upperclassmen also paced the men, as seniors Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) and Connor Bresnahan (Portage, Mich.) went six-seven with times of 27:07.65 and 27:09.21, respectively.
Looking deeper into the results, freshman Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) had a big evening, ending 10th to be the Spartans’ second-lowest finisher (20:34.61) on the women’s side. Senior Tiffany Harber (Columbia City, Ind.) was also in the top 15, ending 14th(20:42.01). For the men, senior Thomas Dean was the third runner to cross for Lambert’s crew, placing 32nd (28:23.05).
The Spartans break from competition next weekend to prepare for the Division III Pre-Nationals event at Louisville, Ky., as part of the Greater Louisville Invitational Saturday, Oct. 1.
