It was like Hoosier Hysteria at the Huntington girls golf sectional Monday. There was the big school favorite with a bunch of smaller schools trying to knock them off their throne. As the scores came in the Manchester Lady Squires were just 3 strokes behind Huntington with one player each left to come in. With Manchester knowing the Huntington fifth player was not having a good day, senior Karly Eichenauer needed to post a score of 95 or better to knock off the Vikings. As the rest of the team sat at their table with nervous emotions, Eichenauer added her score. The score poster then wrote 91 beside her name with the whispers turning in to excitement as the Squires had just won the 2016 sectional.
The excitement also beamed at the Southwood table as Dayna Dale fired a score of 79 to win individual medalist honors and propel the Lady Knights to Saturday’s regional with a third place finish. Northfield finished fourth, Wabash tenth.
Leading Manchester was Karly Eichenauer with a 91. Kelsey Eichenauer added a 92, Samantha Kissell 93, Madyson Ulrey 96, Lydia Little 98.
Leading Southwood was Dayna Dale with a 79. Katie Springer added a 104, Lorynn Hunt 105, Chloe Kendall 106, Haleigh Snyder 166.
For Northfield Anna Driscoll and Ariel Dale each had a 102. Emma Wynn added 105, Braelyn Deeter 107, Chelsea George 113.
For Wabash Bella Corillo had a 103. Halle Miller 115, Lindsey Mattern 119, Maya Benysh 129.
Manchester and Southwood will play in the regional at Cobblestone Golf Course Saturday.
