NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. –Sophomore forward/midfielder Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.), junior midfielder Courtney Hersick (Plymouth, Ind.) and junior defender Jaclyn Scialdone (Noblesville, Ind.) each tested Otterbein University’s net minder Saturday, Sept. 17.
Hersick fired off two shot-on-goal strikes with Birmingham and Scialdone taking one attempt apiece. In all cases, Cardinals’ keeper Andrea Pohlman turned away the determined Black and Gold offense as part of a 3-0 victory on the Good Field pitch at Spartan Soccer Complex.
Spartans’ sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Smith (Mason, Ohio) equaled her counterpart throughout most of the first half, but a pair of goals over the final 13 minutes of the first half gave the visitors a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Smith managed six saves, marking the ninth time she’s gathered five-or-more in a match, to try and off-set a 31-7 shots’ advantage for Otterbein.
Manchester University concludes its non-conference schedule Wednesday, Sept. 21. They travel to Huntington University for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
