The Southwood and Northfield volleyball teams played a classic TRC and county match up at Southwood Tuesday with the Lady Knights pulling out a 25-17, 30-28, 25-23 win.
Although the match went just three games there was just tow times the lead was five points or more. In game one the Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead off an Alissa Pershing tip before the Norse scored three straight off a Jordan Bratch kill and an ace from Elizabeth Haupert. The Knights would hang on to a slim lead until 12-10 when Makenna Proffitt recorded a kill that helped the Knights score three straight to lead 15-10. Southwood held the five point lead until 22-17 when they took advantage of two Norse errors and got a kill from Kayla Mays to win game one 25-17.
game two would start out with the two teams trading points as the game was tied five times by the time it was 9-9. The Knights would score two straight aided by a tip from Ellie Hobbs before the Norse answered with three straight. Back came the Knights, scoring 8 of the next 12 points to grab a 17-13 lead and held the four point lead to 22-18. Northfield would then get a tip from Ava Smith and a kill from Bratch to score four straight and trailed 23-22. Back and forth they went, trading blows and leads with Northfield leading 28-27 after a Ashlie Koch tip. Southwood would then tie the game at 28 before getting a kill from Proffitt and an ace from Ashley Parson to win game two 30-28.
It looked like the Knights could run away with game three midway through the set. As the first two games were, it was tight early with Northfield leading 12-11 when the Knights found a little momentum, scoring 7 of the next 8 to grab an 18-13 lead, but back came the Norse. Bratch would score on a tip, followed by a Smith kill as they scored 7 of the next 8 to tie the score at 20. The Norse would continue to force the issue, this time out scoring Southwood 3-2 to lead 23-22 before a serve out of bounds tied the score. The Knights jumped on the opportunity, getting a block and a tip from Pershing to end the game 25-23 and the night 3-0.
