Squire Tennis Falls To Valley

It was a great night for tennis in Akron, Indiana as the host Tippecanoe Valley Vikings
edged out the Manchester Squires. It was the fourth match in four nights for the Manchester Tennis Team
as they took the courts on a beautiful evening. The match would be razor thin with the veteran Valley seniors
getting the best in critical matches against the young Squires. “We have now lost two conference matches
(Maconaquah & Valley) by the slimmest of margins, and although they sting, I think we have learned a great
deal from these situations,” said Coach Screeton. The Wright brothers found a way to get Tippecanoe two
critical points in the singles matches by defeated Donathan at one singles and Parrett at three singles.
“Logan and Luke played some quality tennis tonight, but just came up a little short. Luke Donathan
continues to compete at the highest level at one singles and being a sophomore, his game is improving and
his time will come.” added Screeton. The Singles match that went the Squires way was Trick at two singles,
who responded after losing the first set tiebreaker by two points like a seasoned pro to win sets two and
three. “Spence was incredible tonight. When you lose a set by two points, it can throw your mental game
into chaos, but he did not let it affect him as he played some of his best tennis of the year to win that match,”
commented Screeton. In Doubles, it was a split as Manchester would win at one doubles behind
Dierks/Wagoner, but suffer defeat at two doubles with Shepherd/Hein competing against two seniors on
senior night. “One Doubles played a very solid match once they found their rhythm, I think some big things
are left for this duo come sectionals, as for two doubles, it was a tough night for both players to find their
games, but a super competitive second set resulted in another Squire twopoint tiebreaker loss. We went
03 in the tiebreakers tonight, and I think that ultimately decided the match.” concluded Screeton. The
Squires will find get a couple days off, before next week’s match with Rochester on Monday in Rochester
and Wednesday night’s first round of Sectionals in Peru.
