The banged up Wabash Apaches football team had the task of taking on TRC south leader Peru Friday. With starting quarterback Sammy Hipskind out with an injury Wabash tuned to freshman Jared Holley. Holley would throw for 145yds and 2 touchdowns but it wasn’t enough as the Peru ground game gave the Apaches problems in a 41-19 loss.
Peru would get on the board first when Gavin Gysin found the end zone from 24yds out with 9:46 on the clock for a 6-0 lead. Wabash would answer the Peru score with 1:35 left when Luke Proctor ran it in from 17yds out and the score was tied 6-6.
The first score of the second quarter came from the Peru defense when Gysin picked off Holley for a 10yd TD and a 12-6 lead. The last score of the half came when Tigers running back Jordan Rader plunged in the end zone from 6yds out as Peru led 20-6 at the half.
Wabash would strike first in the third quarter when Holley connected with Justin Beauchamp who found the pylon with 9:56 left to cut the Peru lead to 20-12. The Tigers would get those points back when quarterback Robert Cunningham took it in from 18yds out with 5:46 left in the third to lead 28-12.
Wabash would be forced to punt on their first possession of the fourth quarter with the snap going over the head of the punter and Peru recovering on the Wabash 11. The Tigers would waste no time taking advantage of the error when Cunnimgham found Austin Caldwell from 13yds out to increase the Peru lead to 35-12. Wabash would bounce back, moving the ball through the air with Holley finding Eryk Weber for a 16yd score to make it 35-19.
