Lady Squires Top Norse in County Volleyball

It was another county battle at Manchester Tuesday as the Lady Squires volleyball team played host to Northfield. In a see saw affair the Squires would pull off a 27-17, 16-25, 25-19, 28-26 win.

in game one Manchester jumped out to a 5-1 lead with Paige Wagoner serving an ace and Cierra Carter recording a kill. The Norse would regroup when Ashlie Koch nailed a kill that started a 7-0 run to put Northfield up 8-5. During the run Jordan Brtach and Kiana Kendall had kills. Back came the Squires, going to Carter and Anna Osborne to score 10 of the next 11 points to take the lead back at 15-9. The Squires would cling to a 20-12 lead when Haylie Faust killed to start a 4-0 run and cut the Manchester lead to 20-16. The Squires would answer however, scoring 5 of the last 6 points for the 25-17 win.

The Norse would find Bratch early in game two and take advantage of some Squire miscues to race out to a 13-0 lead. The squires would start to chip away and with the score 16-6 Ava Smith would score on a tip for a 3-0 run and a 19-6 lead. Sydney day would then record a tip and a block for the squires to get the deficit to 13-21, but the Norse lead was to much as Northfield won game two 25-16.

Game three would be a battle as the Squires led 6-3 aided by a Wagoner tip before Northfield went to Bratch and Koch to come back and tie the score at 8. The match remained a one and two point difference until 17-15 when day would score on a tip again with Manchester building the lead to 20-16. At 23-19 the Squires would score the last two for a 25-19 win and a 2-1 lead.

Game four was a game of runs as Manchester came out firing on all pistons with Day, Carter and Mattie McKee dominating at the net to shoot out to an 8-1 lead. The Squires would continue to go to Day and Carter, building the lead to 16-3 when things changed. The Squires would hit a kill out of bounds with Northfield then getting a kill from Ally Keaffaber to score 5 straight to make it 16-8. Manchester would then score a couple points but the Northfield momentum kicked in again. Koch and Faust would get kills along with a Morgan Meyer ace to close the gap to 20-15. With Manchester leading 23-17 Northfield would make yet another run, starting with a Kendall kill to score 8 of the next 9 points to take a 25-24 lead when Carter scored on a block to tie the score. Ava Smith would then give the Norse the lead again on a tip before the Squires scored three straight to take the game 28-26 and the night 3-1.
