It may have rained all evening in Wabash County, but the tennis courts were dry in Peru Wednesday as the Wabash and Manchester tennis teams opened sectional play. Wabash took on defending sectional champion and favorite Peru, defeating the Tigers 3-2, while Manchester pulled off a 3-2 win over Maconaquah to set up an all Wabash County sectional championship Thursday.
In the Wabash vs Peru match all three singles players picked up wins. At #1 singles Luke Mattern won 6-1, 6-1. Rob Ford won at#2 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Alex Driscoll won at #3 singles 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. The #1 doubles team of Cal Stone & Asif Khan fell 6-4, 3-6, 2-6. The 32 doubles team of Matthew Stein & Ayden Kocher fell 6-2, 3-6, 0-6.
In the Manchester vs Maconaquah match Luke Donathan fell at #1 singles 0-6, 0-6. Spence Trick won at #2 singles 6-4, 6-4. Logan Parrett fell at #3 singles 1-6, 2-6. Heath Dierks & Parker Wagoner won at #1 doubles 6-7(1), 6-0, 6-2. Kyle Shepherd & Uria Hein won at #2 doubles 6-1, 6-1.
With the wins Wabash and Manchester will meet for the sectional championship Thursday.
