Knights Grab Share Of TRC Lead With Win At Maconaquah

The Southwood basketball team went on the road to Maconaquah Friday with first place in the TRC at stake. Maconaquah was sitting atop the conference standings with a 7-0 record while the Knights were at 6-1. The Knights raced out to an early lead, then stepped on the gas in the second to climb atop the TRC standings with an 80-61 win over the Braves.

Southwood jumped out to a quick lead before Maconaquah came back to tie the score at 9. The Knights then scored the final four point of the quarter to lead 13-9 after one.

The Southwood offense started to find their groove in the second, increasing their lead to 30-20 before putting up 23 points in the quarter and led 36-23 at the half.

Maconaquah would click in the third and out score Southwood 21-20 with the Knights still holding a double digit lead at 56-44 with a quarter to go before going off for 24 points in the fourth for the 80-61 win.

The JV Knights streaked out to a 19 to 3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They beat Maconaquah 46-26 to run their record to 12-5. All 10 kids who dressed got to play meaningful minutes in the game.

Ethen Roberts led the team with 15 points. Jackson Simons had 11 points. Braden Barney scored 9 and had 3 blocked shots. Dylan Filip had 4 points and led the team with 7 rebounds. Gabe Lloyd and Quentin Perry added 3 points a piece with Perry also leading the team with 4 steals. Colby Crow added 1 point and 5 rebounds. Luke Winer had 3 rebounds and 2 steals while Jarrett Smith had 2 rebounds.
