The Manchester boys basketball team played host on senior night to 3A, #2 Northwood Tuesday, playing even with the Panthers for a quarter before the wheels fell off in a 71-27 loss.
The Squires would get on the board first off an Adam Byers bucket, then led 4-2 when Brayden Casper hit. Northwood would come back to score the next 5 and grab a 7-4 lead when two Levi Hicks free throws made it 7-6. Hicks would give Manchester a 10-9 lead with Koehl Fluke and David McAtee also hitting with the score tied 15-15 after one.
As well as the Squires played in the first, they would have a hard time finding the bucket the remainder of the game as the Panthers started the second quarter on a 15-0 run to grab a 30-15 lead before Hicks hit the Squires lone bucket in the quarter with 1:12 left. Manchester trailed 31-17 at the half.
Northwood would continue their hot shooting to start the third as they scored the first 8 points to lead 39-17 when Fluke drained a three to make it 39-20. Down 43-20 Fluke would hit the only other bucket for the Squires in the quarter as the Northwood lead grew to 49-22 after three.
The Panthers would score the first 7 points of the fourth quarter before David McAtee connected from downtown, but the Panthers would answer with 9 straight for a 65-25 lead. Mason Hamby would score the final points for Manchester as the Squires fell 71-29.
Leading Manchester was Koehl Fluke with 8 points. Levi Hicks added 6, Brayden Casper 2, Adam Byers 2, Mason Hamby 2, David McAtee 2, Kane Gable 2.
Manchester fell in the junior varsity game 59-43.
Leading the Squires was Thane Creager with 11 points. Logan Parrett added 9, Isaiah Davis 7, Andrew McAtee 3, Caleb Stout 2, Austin Underwood 3, Kreeden Krull 1, Konrad Borgmann 2.
