The Wabash Apaches played host to Peru in their final regular season game Friday, falling to the Tigers 71-43.
The Apaches jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a bucket from Kaleb Kelsheimer before the Tigers silenced the crowd on senior night. Peru would get a bucket from Jonah Lester that ignited a 21-0 run to grab a 21-2 lead. The Tigers got buckets from five different players during the run before Trenton Daughtry scored with 1:15 on the clock to make it 21-2. Jeremiah Johnson would then hit for the third time in the quarter before Cal Stone ended the scoring for the quarter with the Tigers leading 23-6.
Peru would remain hot to start the second quarter, getting buckets from DJ Fuller, Trevon Crowe and Lester to score the first 9 points of the quarter and led 32-6 before Logan Vander Velden converted two free throws. Peru was leading 36-10 when the Apaches would find a little momentum, out scoring Peru 9-2 to close the deficit to 38-19. Vander Velden hit 7 free throws during the run before Johnson ended the quarter with two buckets and Peru leading 41-19 at the half.
Johnson and Christian Howell would get the first two buckets of the third quarter to make it 45-19 and built the lead to 51-23. The two teams would trade free throws before Fuller connected and was answered by a Luke Mattern three to make it 56-28. Fuller would score again before Mattern ended the quarter with two free throws as the Tigers led 58-31 after three.
Two Lester free throws and a bucket from Bailey Gardner would start the fourth quarter as the Tiger lead grew to 62-31 before Kelsheimer got the Apaches on the board. Peru would have five different players score a bucket in the quarter while Wabash was led by Kelsheimer with 4 as Peru rolled to a 71-43 win.
