FORT WAYNE, IND. – Sophomore 133-pounder Ben Cauffman (Fort Wayne, Ind.), junior 141-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.), freshman 157-pounder Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior 165-pounder Tristan Wilson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) all finished up their 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional tournament appearances with 2-2 records Saturday, Feb. 25.
After each member of the quartet rallied from championship side losses during day one action Friday, Feb. 24, to win two matches on the back side, they each had their season ended Saturday morning. Cauffman was stopped by Thomas More College’s John Shirkey, 13-3; Wilson, concluding a sparkling third season in a Black and Gold singlet with 30 victories, was held off by the University of Chicago’s Grant Morrison 7-4; Napier, who wrapped up an above .500 first year college slate, dropped a 4-3 thriller to Gavin Nelson of Ohio Northern; and Tristan Wilson, who like his similar last named teammate, won two matches at a regional for the second successive season, was blanked by eventual consolation champion Davon Jackson of Olivet College of Michigan, 13-0.
The host Spartans concluded the event at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum with 10.5 points.
