FRENCH LICK, IND. – Junior Jacob Hopkins (Kokomo, Ind.) carded twin rounds of 86 on the Donald Ross Course at French Lick during the Franklin College Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday March 11 and 12, topping Manchester University in the first meet of its spring season.
Hopkins’ 172 total over 36 holes left him tied for 33rd. Sophomore Connor Labedz (Aurora, Ill.) turned in a 175 rebounding with an individual Black and Gold team low 18-hole round of 85 Sunday after coming into the clubhouse on Saturday with a 90. His score left him 37th. Senior Andrew Topp made it three members of Coach Tara Boone’s squad in the top 40, as he tallied a 184 to tie for 39th.
On the team leaderboard, Manchester University registered a five-shot improvement from day one to day two (387-382) to wind up at 769. The host Grizzlies wound up tied with Vincennes University for first (616 each), while Hanover College was only five shots back (621).
The Spartans are scheduled to return to action Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, for the Mt. St. Joseph University of Ohio Spring Invitational.
