DANVILLE, KY. – Senior outfielder Emilee Liston (Cicero, Ind.) and junior infielder Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.) each compiled multiple-hit games in the second half of a doubleheader against Southern Athletic Association foe Centre College Sunday, March 12, to highlight Manchester University’s afternoon.
Ladwig, as part of a three-for-five afternoon at CC’s softball field which the host Praying Colonels swept by 12-2 and 7-1 counts, smashed her 20th career round tripper in the second contest. The long ball tied former standout Amy Hommema for first on the program’s annals. Liston went two-for-three in the nightcap at the designated player slot, wrapping up 12 innings of action in which she also drove in the Black and Gold’s lone score of the opener.
The hosts broke open game one with four runs in the first in route to the five-inning victory. The two sides’ pitching staffs buckled down in the nightcap, as the offenses combined for only three hits over a span of the first three frames. Centre broke up the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with a grand slam topping a seven-run rally.
Coach Josh Dzurick’s squad continues its 2017 schedule with a 10-game Fort Myers, Florida, spring trip beginning Sunday, March 19.
