The Southwood Lady Knights softball team made great strides in just one night Friday. On Thursday Southwood was one hit and shut out at Western with Taylor visiting the Knights on Friday. Southwood was out hit just 8-4, but 5 errors cost the Knights in a 6-2 loss to the Trojans.
Taylor jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before the Knights threatened in the bottom. With two outs Makenna Pace would single and advance to second on an error. Brooke Elliott would then single to put runners on the corners before a strike out ended the inning.
Taylor would score a lone run in the second to lead 4-0, then get another run in the fourth for a 5-0 score. Taylor led 6-0 in the fifth when the Knights would get the goose egg off the board. Kayla Mays would lead off with a double and was moved to third on a Hayley Bland ground out. MaKayla Profitt would then single to right, driving home Mays to make it 6-1.
The Knights would get out of a jam in the sixth, then cut into the lead a little more in the bottom of the inning. Keagan Simpson would start the inning reaching on an error before stealing second. Simpson would then advance to third on a wild pitch before an Elliott walk put runners on the corners. Kassidy Atwood would then ground out to first, driving home Simpson for a 6-2 score.
The Southwood defense went three up and three down in the top of the seventh before making one more push in the bottom of the inning. Hayley Bland would draw a lead off walk and was ran for by Jessica Brubaker. After a strike out a caught fly ball would double off Brubaker to end the game.
