The junior duo of baseball outfielder Chad Schultz (Fair Oaks, Ind.) and softball second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.) represented Manchester University on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for March 20-26.
Schultz, the loop’s baseball Hitter of the Week, had a monstrous run at the plate, hitting five home runs as part of a meteoric .524 batting average and 1.286 slugging percentage to lead the Black and Gold to wins over Heidelberg and Mt. St. Joseph University in the period. The conference’s co-leader in round trippers also resumed a personal base-reaching string of 12 successive outings and finished with 10 putouts in center field.
Ladwig, the HCAC’s Hitter of the Week, helped send the Spartans to a sparkling 7-2 record on their spring break sojourn in Fort Myers, Fla., last week. She turned in a robust .467 batting average which featured five extra base hits including a home run in the trip finale victory over UW-Superior that put her atop the program’s career leaderboard (21). Her span also concluded with a .733 slugging percentage and a .970 fielding percentage as well.
