The Northfield baseball team erupted for 6 runs in the first inning Tuesday against 1A, #5 Blackhawk Christian before giving up the lead in the fifth and falling 9-7.
After giving up a run in the top of the first the Norse would get off to a good start at the plate in the bottom of the inning. Chance Hartman would lead off being hit by a pitch and was followed by Jared Vigar being hit by a pitch. Braden Ripplinger would then draw a walk to load the bases before a Blake Harner ground out scored Hartman to tie the score. Cole Rosen then walked to load the bases again before a Jacob Truman walk scored Vigar. With two outs after an infield fly Nate Drancik drew a walk to force home Rippliger to make it 3-1 before Mccauley Miller emptied the bases with a triple and the Norse led 6-1.
Blackhawk would score twice in the second with Northfield getting a run back in the bottom of the inning. Jared Vigar would reach on a dropped third strike with Ripplinger advancing Vigar to second. Harner would then reach on a dropped third strike with Vigar taking third to put runners on the corners. Vigar would then score on a wild pitch to make it 7-3.
Blackhawk would then start to chip away at the Northfield lead, scoring 1 in the third and 3 in the fourth to tie the score, then get 1 in the fifth and 1 in the seventh for the 9-7 final.
