The Wabash and Southwood softball teams hooked up Wednesday, needing nine innings to settle the score. Trailing 2-0 the Lady Knights would score a run in the 6th & 7th innings to force extra innings, then out score the Apaches 2-1 in the ninth for a 4-3 win.
Wabash would get on the board in the top of the first when Whitney Working led off the game with a single and moved to second on a Taylor Kelley ground out. Kelsie Olinger would then fly out to right, with Working tagging up and advancing to third. Working would then score on a wild pitch for the 1-0 lead.
Wabash was still clinging to a 1-0 lead heading to the sixth when Taylor Mettler hit a two out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hannah Halverson would then draw a walk. Both runners would advance a base on a wild pitch with Mettler scoring on a Southwood error for a 2-0 lead. The Knights would cut the Wabash lead in half in the bottom of the inning. With one out Brooke Elliott would single to center. Kassidy Atwood would then single, chasing Elliott to third before a Kayla Mays sac fly to center scored Elliott to make it 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh Kassity Simpson would hit a one out single to left and advance to second on a Wabash error. Keagan Simpson would then hit a fly ball to center, moving Kassity Simpson to third with two outs. MaKenna Pace would then drive home Simpson with a single to center to force extra innings.
The game would go to the ninth. Working would reach first on a one out error. With Working standing on third after wild pitches, Kelley would hit a grounder to short, scoring Working for a 3-2 lead. The Knights would get out of the inning and needed a run. Taylor Heath would lead off with a single and advance to second on a wild pitch. Kassity Simpson then reached on a ground ball error with Heath racing around third and scoring. The Simpson sisters would then end the game. With Kassity standing on second, Keagan would single to left to score Kassity as the Knights came back for a 4-3 win.
