The Wabash Lady Apaches softball team fell behind 4-1 Monday before a comeback fell short, falling to Peru 6-1.
Wabash would take a 1-0 lead in the first when Kaitlyn Dowdal hit a one out single before taking second on a wild pitch. With two outs Hannah Halverson doubled to center, scoring Dowdal for a 1-0 lead.
Peru would come back with 4 runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead, then score 1 in the fourth to go up 5-1 before the Apaches started to peck away. Wabash would get a run back in the fourth. With one out Halverson would double and reach third when Katie Newman reached on an error. With two outs Kailynn Richardson would reach on an error that scored Halverson to make it 5-2.
The Apaches would plate another run in the fifth. With two outs Dowdal would single before stealing second and score when Erika King reached on an error to make it 5-3.
Peru would get their sixth run in the top of the sixth and led 6-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh when Wabash made things interesting. With one out King would single and would score on a Halverson single. Newman then doubled home Halverson to make it 6-5 before a pop up and a ground out ended the game.
