Blair Pitches Complete Game-Hits Grand Slam In Win Over Maconaquah

The Southwood baseball team was leading just 2-0 heading to the fourth inning Wednesday against Maconaquah when Carson Blair blasted a grand slam to propel the Knights past the Braves 6-1.

Southwood would grab the lead in the second when Lucas Topliff led off with a single, followed by Tanner Hartley reaching on an error with Topliff advancing to third before scoring on an error. Calyton Wells then singled before Matt Cox and Blair drew walks. A Joel Hinds fly ball scored Wells to make it 2-0.

The Knights would make noise in the fourth when Hartley led off with a single and took second on a botched pick off play. Zach Ball then drew a walk to load the bases when Blair hit a shot over the left field fence for a grand slam and a 6-0 lead.

Maconaquah would score their run in the fifth. Hunter Hays led off with a single before stealing second. With one out Cody Koebler would hit a grounder to the pitcher with Hays being thrown out at third. Bryce Ward would then ground out with Koebler rounding third and scoring on the throw to first.
