Between the two teams the Southwood and Northfield softball teams pounded out 35 hits combined with Northfield winning a 15-13 slug fest Monday.
Kiana Kendall would lead off the game reaching on an error with Shelby Ward following with a bunt single. Ally Keaffaber would move both runners a base with a sacrifice before a Jordan Shafer single scored Kendall and Ward to make it 2-0. The Knights would get out of the inning giving up just two and made some noise of their own in the bottom of the inning. Kassity Simpson would lead off with a single and advance to second on a passed ball. With one out Brooke Elliott single home Simpson to make it 2-1. Kassidy Atwood followed reaching on an error before a Keagan Simson single made it 2-2. Tabitha Thomas then singled home Atwood to give the Knights a 3-2 lead and was followed by Kayla Mays single to score Simpson to make it 4-2.
In the top of the second Madison Shrider would lead off with a single and score on a Kendall triple to make it 4-3. Ward would then single home Kendall to tie the score at 4. Southwood would respond with a big inning in the bottom of the frame. MaKayla Proffitt led off with a single and was moved to second by Taylor Heath. Kassity Simpson would then draw a walk before a MaKenna Pace single loaded the bases. Elliott would then clear the bases with a three run double to give the Knights a 7-4 lead before an Atwood single put runners on the corners. Keagan Simson then doubled home Elliott to grab an 8-4 lead.
The Norse would get a couple back in the top of the third. With one out Olivia Taylor singled before advancing to second on a ground out. With two outs Shrider would draw a walk before a Kendall double to score both runners to make it 8-6. The Knights would go out in order in the bottom of the inning.
In the fourth with one out Keaffaber would single and was followed by a Shafer single. Alexis Taylor was then hit by a pitch to load the bases before a Michelle Hunt single scored Keaffaber. Olivia Taylor then singled home Shafer to make it 8-8. Ashley Koch would then double home Taylor and Hunt to give Northfield a 10-8 lead before a Shrider single made it 11-8. The last run of the inning would come off a Kendall single as the Norse led 12-8. With two outs in the bottom of the inning Atwood would reach on an error and was drove home on a Keagan Simson double to make it 12-9 after four.
In the fifth Shafer would lead off with a single and advance to second on a wild pitch. Alexis Taylor would then reach on an error before a Hunt sac bunt put runners on second and third. Olivia Taylor then drew a walk to load the bases before a opo up made it two outs. Shrider would then single home Shafer and Alexis Taylor to grab a 14-9 lead before a Kendall single made it 15-9.
The scoring would then slow down until the bottom of the sixth when Kassity Simpson led off drawing a walk. With one out Elliott was hit by a pitch before both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Atwood then reached on an error that left the bases loaded when a Keagan Simpson single scored Kassity Simpson to make it 15-10. Elliott would then score on a wild pitch to cut the Northfied lead to 15-11 before Olivia Adams drew a walk to load the bases again. Mays would then fly out to center, scoring Atwood to make it 15-12 before a Proffitt single scored Keagan Simpson to make it 15-13. A line drive out would end the threat.
Unlike the rest of the game, neither team would score in the seventh as Northfield held on for the 15-13 win.
