The Northfield softball team built a 7 run lead heading to the seventh Wednesday, holding on to defeat Maconaquah 10-7.
The Norse would plate a run in the first when Kiana Kendall led off the bottom of the inning with a shot over the center field fence for a 1-0 lead.
Maconaquah would tie the score in the top of the second when Holly Morris led off with a single and was followed with a single from Mikaylie Whybrew. With one out Lindsay Gross would reach on an error before a Savanna Miracle single scored Morris to make it 1-1. In the bottom of the inning Michelle Hunt would lead off with a walk and scored on an Olivia Taylor double. Ashey Koch would then single to put runners on the corners. With runners on second and third Kendall would ground out, scoring Taylor to make it 3-1. Shelby Ward then singled home Koch for a 4-1 lead. Ally Keaffaber then singled with ward taking second before a Jordan Shafer single scored Ward. Alexis Taylor would then drive home Keaffaber with a single as the lead grew to 6-1.
Maconaquah would cut the lead in half in the fourth. Miracle would draw a walk. With two outs after a strike out and a pop up Courtney Waldmann would single to put runners on first and second. Carra Wolf then doubled to left, scoring Miracle and Waldmann to make it 6-3.
In the bottom of the sixth Kendall would lead off with a single before being forced out at second when Ward reached on a fielders choice. Ward would then steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch before Keaffaber reached on an error with Ward scoring. With two outs Alexis Taylor would single and was followed by a Hunt double that scored Shafer to make it 8-3. Olivia Taylor then drove home her sister Olivia and Hunt as the lead grew to 10-3.
Maconaquah would make things interesting in the seventh. Whybrew would lead off with a single and was followed by a Lexie DiBattiste single. With one out Miracle would single to load the bases when Bailey Smith singled to score DiBattiste and Gross to make it 10-5. With two outs Waldmann would reach on an error withMiracle and Spence scoring to close the gap to 10-7 before a ground out ended the game.
