The Wabash softball team picked up a much needed win on the road Thursday, defeating Canterbury 7-4.
The Lady Apaches jumped on the host right away, scoring 4 runs in the first. Kelsie Olinger led off the game with a single and was moved a base on a Kaitlyn Dowdal single. Both runners would steal a base before Taylor Mettler reached on an error with Olinger scoring for a 1-0 lead. After two pop outs Erika King would single to center with Dowdal scoring for a 2-0 lead. Next up was Katie Gray who singled home Mettler and King to give Wabash a 4-0 lead.
Canterbury would cut the Wabash lead to 4-3 in the third.
The game would remain 4-3 heading to the sixth when the Apaches would add a run. With one out King would reach on a dropped third strike. With two outs Sydnee Osborn would single home King for a 5-3 lead.
Wabash would get a couple insurance runs in the seventh. Olinger would lead off with a walk and advance to second on a ground out. Mettler would then single home Olinger to lead 6-3. Hannah Halverson followed the Mettler single with one of her own with Mettler rounding the bases to give the Apaches a 7-3 lead. Canterbury would pick up a single run in the bottom of the inning as Wabash held on for the 7-4 win.
