The Wabash and Southwood softball teams hooked up Monday with each team collecting 11 hits and committing 3 errors. The Lady Apaches would get some timely hitting as they defeated the Knights 8-4.
Southwood would take the lead in the first when MaKenna Pace reached on a one out error and was drove home on a Brooke Elliott single. With two outs Keagan Simpson would single home Elliott for a 2-0 lead.
Wabash would even things up in the top of the third. Gray would lead off with a single and was followed by a Taylor Kelley single. Kelsie Olinger then singled to load the bases before a Kaitlyn Dowdal single made it 2-1. Taylor Mettler followed with an rbi single to make it 2-2. The Knights would take the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Pace would lead off with a single before two pop ups. Simpson would then double home Pace to lead 3-2.
Back came Wabash in the fourth. Katie Newman would lead off being hit by a pitch and was followed by a Sydnee Osborn walk, followed by a Gray walk to load the bases. Kelley would then single home Newman to tie the score. Olinger then hit into a fielders choice with Osborn crossing the plate to give the Apaches a 4-3 lead. Gray would then score on a passed ball before Dowdal hit into a fielders choice with Olinger scoring to make it 6-3.
The Apaches would add to their lead in the top of the fifth. Erika King led off with a single and was followed by a Newman double. It looked as though the Knights may get out of the inning after two strike outs before King scored on a passed ball to make it 7-3.
The game went to the seventh still 7-3 when Wabash would add one more run. Kailynn Richardson would reach on an error. With one out Kelley would single home Richardson to lead 8-3. The Knights could only get one run back in the bottom when Keagan Simpson hit a one out double and scored on a Haley Bland single.
