The Northfield and Wabash baseball teams took the field at Northfield Wednesday with the Norse getting a walk off double from Blake Harner in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Wabash 8-7.
Each team would score a run in the first. In the top of the inning Kaleb Kelsheimer led off the game bring hit by a pitch and quickly stole second and third. With one out Robert Irgang would single home Kelsheimer for a 1-0 lead. The Norse would even the score in the bottom when Cole Rosen led off drawing a walk. With one out and Rosen would score on a passed ball to make it 1-1.
Northfield would take the lead in the second. With two outs Trevor Burnsworth would single and scored on a Jacob Truman home run to make it 3-1.
The Apaches would get a run back in the third. With one out Trenton Daughtry would walk and take second on a botched pick off attempt. Daughtry would then steal third before an Irgang grounder scored Daughtry to make it 3-2. Northfield would get the run back in the bottom of the inning. Braden Ripplinger would reach on a dropped third strike. With two outs and Ripplinger on third Matt Coe would reach on an error with Ripplinger scoring to make it 4-2.
Back came the Apaches in the top of the fourth. With one out Reese Samons would single and was followed by a Justin Beauchamp walk. The two runners would then pull off the double steal before a Kaleb Kelsheimer fly ball scored Samons to make it 4-3. The Norse would get the run back in the bottom of the inning on a Burnsworth lead off home run.
Wabash would plate a run in the fifth. Daughtry would reach on an error and advance to second on a second error. Irgang would the be hit by a pitch before a pop up made it one out. With runners on the corners Wabash would again pull off the double steal with Daughtry scoring to make it 5-4. The Norse would plate a couple runs in the bottom. Hartman would lead off with a single and steal second. Jared Vigar would then reach on a dropped third strike with Hartman racing home for a 6-4 lead. With one out Harner would reach on an error before a single from Burnsworth scored Vigar to make it 7-4.
The Apaches would draw within one in the sixth when Clayton Floor was hit by a pitch before Samons hit a shot over the left field monster to close the gap to 7-6.
In the seventh Irgang would lead off reaching on an error with a Kory Fuller grounder moving Irgang to second. Kallen Kelsheimer would then single home Irgang to tie the score 7-7. Relief pitcher Trevor Burnsworth would get out of the inning to set up the exciting finish. With one out Coe would single before Harner sent a shot to the right field fence with Coe rounding the bases to score the winning run.
