NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University found itself among the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Commissioners Cup and men’s and women’s all-sports top five with the announcement of the 2016-17 honors Tuesday, May 9.
On the overall Commissioner’s Cup standings, the Spartans wound up fourth, tallying 48 points from its men’s athletic team finishes and 51.5 over its women’s team results for a 99.5-point total, just seven behind Franklin College for third place. Rose-Hulman registered its third straight Commissioner’s Cup trophy with 137.3 points, holding off a strong charge from Hanover College (130.2).
Led by championships from cross country and outdoor track and field, the Black and Gold’s women’s programs ended fifth on their all-sports list. They were also aided by the tennis team placing in a tie for third with Franklin College. Hanover and Rose-Hulman were neck-and-neck at the finish with the Panthers producing 71.7 points and the Fightin’ Engineers winding up at 64.33.
On the men’s side of the ledger, a cross country title and runner-up finish for baseball highlighted Manchester University’s fourth-place all-sports placing. Rose-Hulman cruised to first with 73 points due to three championships during the year.
