The Manchester baseball team took a 2-0 lead in the third, then scored a run in the fifth and sixth to defeat Maconaquah 4-2 Wednesday.
Manchester would take the lead in the second when Hayes Sturtsman led off drawing a walk and was followed by Mason Meyer being hit by a pitch. Hunter Boughman would then ground out, moving both runners a base before Jeremiah Airgood hit a fly ball out to left that scored Sturtsman for a 1-0 lead.
The Squires would plate another run in the third. Noah Beck would lead off reaching on an error before stealing second and advance to third on a David McAtee ground out. Kane Gable would then single home Beck for a 2-0 lead.
The Braves would cut the Manchester lead in half in the fifth. With two outs Silcox would single and score on a Hunter Hays single to make it 2-1. Manchester would get the run back in the bottom of the inning when McAtee led off with a triple and scored on a Gable fly ball.
Maconaquah would score in the top of the sixth when Cole Alspaugh led off drawing a walk and was followed by a Bryce Ward single. With one out Braxton Dewey would single home Alspaugh to make it 3-2. With two outs in the bottom of the inning Kam Lester would double and score on a Beck double to give the Squires a 4-2 lead.
The Braves would look to threat in the top of the seventh when Hays reached on a dropped third strike before a Cody Koebler single put runners on first and second. Manchester pitcher Grant Strobel would then strike out the next two, to preserve the win.
